Real Club de Golf - Traditional Golfing Tenerife-style
Have an historic game at Real Club de Tenerife. It might not be St Andrews
but for a taste of golfing tradition, Tenerife style, it’s got
to be Real Club de Tenerife the second oldest course in Spain.
The setting is in Tacaronte just along from the north airport, Los
Rodeos, and this club oozes charm and history.
It was built in 1932 but has moved with the times in terms of equipment
and course preparation. At 600 metres above sea level and with Mount
Teide looming large in the background, it’s all set fair for a
great 18 holes but in a slightly cooler climate than in the south.
Long drives and lush greens are the order of the day and the course
will give you a good workout.
The course covers 5,694 metres and staged the Spanish Open in 1964.
Lined with avenues of trees and shrubs it is one the most attractive
courses on the island.
With all those years behind it, the club has built a large membership
and play for visitors is limited to 8am to 12.30 on weekdays. After sweeping
into the large free car park, first stop is often the clubhouse, and
you won’t be disappointed. There is a choice of a restaurant or
a café or a bar and social area to relive those turning points
in your days play.
Full coaching and practice facilities are available and a fully stocked
shop will see that you are kitted out. Fees are 75 euros in the peak
winter season and buggies can be hired for just 30 euros and clubs for
14 euros. If you are visiting the north, it’s well worth arranging
a game on this famous old course.
