Pearly Grey -
Making it Happen in Callao Salvaje

Here we are in early May and Tenerife seems a little quiet at the
moment. While many a Tenerife pundit sits back bemoaning the depressing
effect that the combined effect of a weak euro,
expensive flights, and an early easter have
had on the Canary Islands in general, others are energetically using
the lull to push for improvements in their area which will have a
positive impact on their clients, on the resort and on the surrounding
village.
We're
talking about the village of Callao Salvaje where locals have felt
for some time that the otherwise very active Adeje
council lavishes
less attention on their neighborhood than it does on surrounding
towns and villages. One of the main businesses in the area is the
Pearly Grey Ocean Club and its General Manager, Ryszard
Majewski,
Ricardo to his many
friends, believes in taking a pro-active approach. "We
have a lot of very happy regular clients, who think of Pearly
Grey as
their
home
from
home, and we know we have a duty to provide the best for them.
Feedback has always been important to us, that’s why we
have a interactive website that includes a quarterly
newsletter.”
Ricardo continues,"We
got together with 4 other key
hotels in the village and arranged a meeting with the mayor
and the tourism councillor of Adeje. We presented 17 points that
we feel need addressing, most
are fairly minor, but long running complaints like road markings,
signs off the main road to show which hotels are here etc. Together
they can give a big boost to the pride that local people already
feel in Callao Salvaje.”
The meeting could well mark a turning point in
the development of Callao Salvaje as Ryszard relates. “ We
were well received and got a positive reaction, we have been
invited
back for further
meetings and our own group of 5 hotels are going to meet once
a month to share ideas and keep the momentum going.”
Change is in the air, and the staff of Pearly Grey will make
sure it is to the benefit of their clients. In the meantime around
the pool, in the beauty salon, the bar and the restaurant,
life goes on with a relaxed contentment.
