It's Showtime!
There are many bars and restaurants in Tenerife
that term themselves 'family bars' but in some cases this means only
that children are tolerated rather than welcomed with open arms.
One place that goes out of the way to cater to all ages is the Beirkeller, near the Go Karting in Adeje. Set price show nights are on every Sunday and Monday and the fun begins the moment your group arrives.
As you arrive at the Bierkeller for Showtime, you will have your photograph taken with the cast then be shown to your table in one of three themed areas of the restaurant. Kids will find pictures and crayons which they can hand in later for the colouring competition.
As the oompah pah music strikes up get ready to swing your steins to some of the best loved west end musical hits from shows like Annie, Oliver, Caberet and the Sound of Music.
The cast will have you singing and laughing along with eight different characters (three of them played by the multi-talented lead, Yohan). The show is very funny indeed and completely kid friendly though there is a liberal lacing of double entendre and cheeky asides.
There is an illusionist who had our kids' eyes popping in disbelief and a knife thrower, as well as fabulous dance routines. Be prepared to yodel your heart out along with Yodel Idol.
Our group of eight - four adults and four kids ranging in age from 5 to 11 had a fabulous time though I must admit I almost did myself a mischief with the stein swinging and that my throat was raw the next day from laughing and yodelling so much. Really a great night out. Recommended!
The Food:
The price of the show includes a traditional meal of a metre long sausage, chips, salad and freshly baked bread and free flowing beer, wine and soft drinks. As the plates arrived this was another occasion for pop-eyed kids as my nephew's jaw dropped when he spied the size of the tasty sausage.
Wrapping it up:
For €45 a head (half-price for kids under 14, free for kids under 4) which includes free transport to anywhere in Tenerife South, Showtime at the Bierkeller really couldn't be beat.
The show lasts from 8pm to 11.30 pm and that is 3 and a half hours of food, free flowing beer and wine, free transport and a barrel load of laughs. Great value family entertainment and now most likely a regular event when we have family visiting in Tenerife. Yodel ay ee oooo..
